Are you passionate about promoting intersectionality and social justice? Are you a diverse person who has experienced discrimination or harassment that impacted your success at school or work? We are looking for Board Members to help Intersectional Acts advocate for folks experiencing harassment and discrimination and work to reduce systemic oppression, institutional betrayal, and secondary trauma. As a Board member, you will have the chance to contribute to the strategic direction of Intersectional Acts and help shape our initiatives.

The Board of Directors at Intersectional Acts plays a crucial role in guiding and overseeing the organization's mission and strategic direction. Board members are responsible for making key decisions, providing leadership, and ensuring the organization operates in alignment with its values and goals. As a working board in a volunteer-run agency, board members actively contribute to shaping the organization's mission, strategic direction, and operational framework.

    • Actively participate in board meetings, providing input, and making informed decisions on organizational matters.

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.

    • Review and approve annual budgets, financial reports, and other important financial documents.

    • Support fundraising efforts and participate in donor cultivation activities.

    • Serve as ambassadors for Intersectional Acts, promoting its mission and advocating for its work.

    • Provide support, guidance, and oversight to the Executive Director and other staff members.

    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards and organizational policies and procedures.

    • Engaging in ongoing learning and development to enhance board effectiveness and knowledge of relevant issues. The learning objectives and/or number of training hours required per year may change depending on Intersectional Acts’ funding streams.

    • Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as required by the organization during its formative years and beyond.tion text goes here

    • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Intersectional Acts.

    • Familiarity with the organization's industry or cause area is required. Professional expertise in fields intersecting with IA work and goals (fields such as HR, Legal, Civil Rights, Title IX, Advocacy, etc.) and or diverse individuals who have experienced institutional betrayal and or secondary trauma when reaching out to their school or work for support addressing harassment and discrimination (including sexual misconduct, intimate partner violence, and stalking) strongly preferred.

    • Previous experience serving on a board of directors or in a leadership role is preferred but not required.

    • Knowledge and understanding of nonprofit governance, best practices, and legal obligations or willingness to take up to 5 hours of training on these topics within the first year of service (legal obligations and responsibilities required to be completed within 60 days)

    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

    • Ability to think strategically and make sound decisions.

    • Financial literacy and understanding of budgeting and financial management are highly preferred but not required if you are willing to take up to 5 hours of training on these topics within the first year of services.

    • Willingness to commit time and energy to board meetings, committee work, and organizational events. Willingness to be responsive, communicative, and participatory in business needs requiring Board involvement and response between board meetings.

  • Board members are expected to actively participate in regular board meetings, engage in committee work, and contribute to organizational initiatives as needed. The estimated time commitment is approximately 5-10 hours per month, depending on the organization’s specific needs. During periods of organizational development, the time commitment for board members is estimated to be approximately 7-12 hours per month. There may be daily communication between board members from Monday to Thursday, and occasional communication outside of those days for special occasions such as events or grant deadlines. Board Members are expected to assist in community engagement on our communication channels. As Intersectional Acts continues to grow, hire staff, and achieve financial stability, the time commitment required from board members will decrease.
